Gillards Shot Blasting in Worcester
Shot blasting is a process of forcibly propelling a stream of compressed air and abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface or remove surface contaminants. There are several variants of the process, using various media. Some are highly abrasive – the most abrasive is shot (with metal shot) and glass bead is moderately abrasive.
A mild version of Soda Blasting with sodium bicarbonate has proved very successful, and was originally used to clean the statue of liberty in the 1980's. Soda blasting is a non-destructive method for used for many appliances, such as cleaning paint and varnish, automotive restoration, industrial equipment, maintenance, rust removal, graffiti removal, masonry cleaning, stone, headstones, boat hull cleaning, mould fire/smoke damage. The shot blasting material consists of formulated sodium bicarbonate, blast soda is an extremely friable material that has micro fragmentation on impact.... literally exploding away surface materials without damage to the substrate.
